Get Your Garden Set For Spring

Tips from Butter Wakefield

This month is the ideal time to get out into the garden and prep ahead for spring. According to garden designer Butter Wakefield whose own home fittingly features our Original Floral Trail Wallpaper, giving your garden an MOT is the first step. “The most important thing you can do for the health of your garden and a successful growing season ahead is to mulch your borders with an organic manure or compost. Hopefully, you may have left the perennials, grasses and leaves, so collect the leaves separately and place them in hessian sacks to break down. This will create gorgeously valuable leaf mould to mulch your borders with next year.”
forget about all your outdoor visitors too, many of whom will start to return in earnest as the weather warms up;

Next up, prune and tie in any shrub roses to allow air and light to get to the middle of the plant and give them the best chance of thriving and start to think about doing the same with your hydrangeas in the coming month. Don’t forget about all your outdoor visitors too, many of whom will start to return in earnest as the weather warms up;

"Tidy any climbers such as ivy as soon as possible as birds will start to nest in them from eary spring onwards. Start thinking about the annuals you might want to sow or source for your pots too and where possible, it's best to ensure they are nectar and pollen rich for the inects, bees and butterflies"

And finally, an optimistic plan of action to help you make the most out of your space as soon as spring hits… “Jet wash all terraces and paths to make ready for glorious outdoor living.” Music to our ears…
